Explanation of requirement 2.9

Requirement 2.9

Completing the main content of the game takes more than 10 minutes. For example: a casual game with 10–20 levels, a quiz game covering several topics with 15–20 questions each, a puzzle game with multiple tasks. To ensure 10 minutes of gameplay, quizzes and tests must contain at least 100 questions. Questions should not be duplicated or minimally changed (different answer options, different wording of the same question).

The game must be long enough for a user to spend at least 10 minutes playing it. This can be achieved in various ways: through the amount of primary content or replayability, variability in the game. If it takes less than 10 minutes to play through all the primary content of the game, the application will be removed from publication or not allowed to it.

The moderation principle is shown in the table. The verdicts are indicated by color:

  • Red — the game is not allowed for publication.
  • Green — the game is allowed for publication.

Sufficient duration

Lots of primary content

The gameplay can be sufficiently long due to a large number of levels and their lengths. This option is suitable for games where it's difficult to reuse the same content more than once. For instance, it would be fitting for quizzes and match-three games.

Game

Comment

The game features a wide array of content: you need to collect cars, create communications, and build buildings. There's no replay value or content reuse, hence no motivation to play through the game again. However, there's enough content in the game to ensure that a complete playthrough takes more than 10 minutes.

Answering all the quiz questions will take no less than 10 minutes. The levels don’t change with subsequent game starts, so there’s no point in playing the game a second time.

Reading through the story takes more than 10 minutes. There's a slight variability, but no motivation to replay the game since the impact of choices is minimal.

Replayability

If a game can be completed in a short amount of time, create motivation for the player to replay it. This can be achieved through variability (different choices in a visual novel, procedural level generation in platformers) and metagame mechanics (achievements, records, character upgrades between runs). This option is suitable for story-focused games, platformers, and strategy games.

Game

Comment

The game has only one level, but it features replayability - the cards are shuffled and placed in a different order each time the game is restarted, motivating the user to keep playing.

The BMI calculator includes content reuse: there's an incentive to use the app during the process of losing weight or gaining mass (ongoing events).

The photo editor doesn't involve adding content, but it is intended for multiple uses.

Both

In many games, such as those in the rogue-like genre, there is a combination of a vast amount of unique content and its replayability.

Game

Comment

Sufficient content, replayable. Players are motivated to return due to a wide selection of puzzles and various difficulty levels.

Game sessions last over 10 minutes, potentially infinite. Replayable: players may want to improve their score, reach the final goal (obtain the final object).

The game has a lot of content: various categories of recipients, many postcards to read. The app is reusable: it can be used to find cards for different occasions.

The app contains a wide variety of recipes, with content reuse encouraged by the motivation to try new recipes.

Insufficient duration

If all the content in the game can be completed in less than 10 minutes and the user has no motivation to replay it, the game will not pass moderation or will be removed from publication.

Game

Reason for publication refusal

The only level in the game can be completed in 10 seconds. There's insufficient content and no motivation to replay the game.

The puzzle has 10 levels that can be completed in three minutes. There's no variability in gameplay, making it only interesting the first time.

There are three identical cars to choose from, with a single race track lacking any environment. There's no possibility to set a record or compete with other players, hence no motivation to play again.

A single level can be completed in 5 minutes, with no motivation to replay it.
