Does my cat really care about me, or just the food I provide?

спрашивает
Stephen Eastwood
Speaking from my own experience with various different cats either my own or other people's it is my opinion that cats only really choose one or maybe two people in their family that they truly bond with, while cats will still give other people their attention they usually choose to... Читать далее

Why do my cats run around the house in the early hours?

Although other factors can also affect their activity (such as the weather, the presence of other cats in their territory, or their health), cats tend to sleep for several short periods during the day and night, rather than a long period of sustained sleep over night, like humans do. In... Читать далее

Is it cruel to keep cats permanently indoors?

I think my answer to that would be that it’s much more difficult to meet a cat’s needs when they’re kept purely indoors. There are a number of pros and cons involved in terms of cats being allowed outside versus cats being kept in the home. In terms of the concerns people tend to have... Читать далее

Why does my cat always sit on the keyboard when I’m trying to type?

спрашивает
Stephen Eastwood
Feline Welfare Manager, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. @LifeOnPawsUK  · 15 декабря 2016
This is a funny one, and there are a number of reasons as to why they might do that. Some people think it’s because keyboards are quite warm, and as cats can be a heat-seeking species, they enjoy sitting on a warm surface. It’s also a way for cats to solicit attention and get a bit of... Читать далее

Anyone who comes up with the definitive answer to this will be a multimillionaire. But there are gadgets out there, particularly if you’re not a cat owner. After all, what cats leave behind can be pretty disgusting. There are the movement and ultrasound sensor gadgets which trigger off... Читать далее

Why do cats sleep so much?

спрашивает
Stephen Eastwood
Feline Welfare Manager, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. @LifeOnPawsUK  · 21 декабря 2016
Cats sleep for about 16 hrs a day on average, although it varies according to the individual – and it also tends to decrease as cats get older, as the sleep can become more fragmented and is a lighter, less deep form of sleep. Kittens (like puppies) tend to sleep for longer, as they’re... Читать далее

What do people have against black cats?

This question comes up every year around the time of Halloween and National Black Cat Day – but, actually, we don’t think black (or black and white) cats are as unpopular as is often believed. In 2015, the RSPCA rehomed many more black, and black-and-white cats than any other coat... Читать далее

Why do cats play with their prey rather than eating it, or present it to their owners as a 'gift'?

спрашивает
Stephen Eastwood
Feline Welfare Manager, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. @LifeOnPawsUK  · 16 декабря 2016
We tend to think that cats are playing with the prey, but that’s probably not what they’re doing. Some cats are not very experienced hunters, or their mums may not have been particularly skilled hunters themselves (as it’s the mum that passes on their skills to their kittens). So a cat... Is cat intelligence the same as human intelligence?

It’s not the same as human, intelligence just different. Cats are very intelligent and it’s thought possibly - and controversially - even more so than dogs. In fact, scientists have found that relatively speaking the cerebral cortex of cats is bigger and more complex than that of dogs...
