Playing videos in the browser

Yandex Browser for Mobile can open video files in the following formats: MP4, WEBM, OGV, X-M4V, WMV, and HLS.

Flash video files are not supported.

Fast forward/rewind

To skip 10 seconds forward or back, tap twice on the right or left edge of the video.

View videos on top of apps
Note. This feature is only available to some users because it's still in development.

If you switch to a different app when viewing a full-screen video in Yandex Browser, it continues playing in a small pop-out window, which appears on top of the other app (also known as Picture in Picture, or PiP). Tap the pop-out window to go back to viewing the video in Yandex Browser. You can drag the video window to any part of your screen.

To enable this feature:

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to the Video section.
  4. Turn on these options:
    • Show on top of other applications: When you exit full-screen mode, the video continues playing in a separate window.
    • Show video when leaving the tab: When you switch to another browser tab or other app, the video continues playing in a separate window.

Video problems

Video lags

The sound is ahead of the video, or there's a black screen instead of the video.

Temporarily disable extensions and power saving mode, then clear the cache and cookies. Check whether your browser cache is saved to a memory card.

Turn off extensions
  1. Tap on the open tab (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Extensions.
  3. Find the extension in the list and set the toggle to Off.
Disable power saving
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Power saving mode.
  4. In Power-saving settings, drag the slider left to Off.
Clear the cache
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to the Privacy section.
  4. Tap Clear data.
  5. Select Cache.
  6. Deselect all other options (if you only want to delete the browser cache).
  7. Tap Clear data.
  8. Confirm deletion.
Clear cookies
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to the Privacy section.
  4. Tap Clear data.
  5. Select Website data.
  6. Deselect all other options (if you only want to delete cookies).
  7. Tap Clear data.
  8. Confirm deletion.
Move browser cache back from the memory card
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to Advanced.
  4. If the Store cache on SD card option is enabled, disable it.

Low video quality

The quality of video playback usually depends on your internet connection speed. If it's inexplicably low, try clearing the cache:

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Go to the Privacy section.
  4. Tap Clear data.
  5. Select Cache.
  6. Deselect all other options (if you only want to delete the browser cache).
  7. Tap Clear data.
  8. Confirm deletion.

I can't disable video autoplay when going to a site

When you go to certain sites, videos start playing automatically. In Yandex Browser, you can't disable auto playback.
