# Protect: export passwords


Export passwords from [Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) to a file or archive, and then [import](https://yandex.ru/support/browser/en/security/passwords-import.md#programs) them back.

## Export passwords from Yandex Browser {#browsers}

Don't send the file or archive containing your passwords by email, don't give anyone access to them, and delete the file or archive immediately after [importing](https://yandex.ru/support/browser/en/security/passwords-import.md#programs) your passwords.

  1. If you have already [created](https://yandex.ru/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) a master password, enter it to access your vault.

  1. Click **![](../_image/bookmark-menu-icon.png)**&nbsp;→ **Export passwords** in the upper-right corner of the **Passwords** section.
  1. Select **To a password-protected archive**.
  1. Enter a password, which should be at least 6 characters long.
  1. To confirm, enter the password again and click **Export**.

      If you don't have a [master password](https://yandex.ru/support/browser/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) but do have a Windows or macOS password, the browser will ask you to enter it. This is safe: Yandex Browser can't access your system password since you enter it in a system window. Linux doesn't have system passwords.

  1. Name the archive and save it in a convenient place.

  In a file, passwords are stored unencrypted, otherwise they cannot be [imported](https://yandex.ru/support/browser/en/security/passwords-import.md#programs) to Yandex Browser.
