Site monitoring

Yandex Direct now offers a site monitoring function to notify you of any problems with the availability of your site. It keeps track of your site's availability by requesting your main page and automatically suspends ad impressions in order to avoid wasting your advertising budget. Impressions resume automatically once the site becomes available.

You will receive an email and text message about problems with your site's availability and the suspension of impressions.

How site monitoring works

The monitoring system checks your site availability by requesting your home page. Ads are suspended if the site is unavailable for at least 15 minutes or more. Impressions will resume once the site is restored.

Site availability is checked by a robot with the useragent Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; YandexMetrika/2.0; + yabs01). In a number of cases, server settings may prohibit queries from being accepted from unknown browsers, which may lead to false notifications about the site's unavailability.

While checking for site availability, the Yandex Direct robot may download site pages even if they are prohibited from being indexed in robots.txt or meta tags. The restriction of the Crawl-delay directive may also be exceeded.


If a site is disabled due to non-payment and a page from the hosting-provider is displayed instead of an error message, then the ads may not be disabled automatically. In this case, the robot considers the site to be functional and doesn't halt ad impressions.

How to activate site monitoring

For campaigns created using the Campaign Wizard, site monitoring is enabled by default. You can't disable it.

To enable site monitoring for the other campaigns, go to Advanced settings on the campaign editing page and enable Site monitoring.

Users who turn on site monitoring will receive two types of messages:

  • Ads disabled, site offline.

  • Ad impressions reinstated, site restored.

You can additionally sign up for SMS-notifications. You need to specify your mobile number to take advantage of this service. Due to limitations on the length of SMS messages, these notifications do not include the website URL or campaign number.

To enable SMS notifications, go to the campaign settings page under Advanced settings → Notifications → SMS Notifications → Notify me about these events and enable About website monitoring results. You can also choose the period of time when you want to receive notifications.

The monitoring status will be displayed at the very top of the campaigns page. Suspended ads will continue to appear in the Active tab, but will be marked with an exclamation point.
