Images in ads

You can add an image to your ad in a unified performance campaign (including ads for mobile apps), in the Campaign Wizard, or in a quick start campaign. A well-chosen image draws more attention to your ad and helps users instantly understand your offer.

Images are displayed in ad networks (YAN and external ad exchanges) and the product gallery in Yandex Search.

The appearance of an ad containing an image will differ depending on the campaign type:

How to add an image

Unified performance campaign

You can upload images when creating or editing an ad in a unified performance campaign. Under Images, click Add. Use an image from the site or a new image:

  • Upload the image.
  • Specify the link.
  • Select from the previously uploaded images.

Technical requirements for images

  • When the aspect ratio is between 1 : 1 and 3 : 4 / 4 : 3 — each side can range between 450 and 5000 pixels.

  • When the aspect ratio is 16 : 9 — the size can range between 1080 × 607 and 5000 × 2812 pixels.

  • Maximum file size is 10 MB.

  • Format — JPG, PNG or GIF (only the first frame will be used).

Campaign Wizard

You can upload images when creating or editing a campaign in the Campaign Wizard.

Technical requirements for images

  • When the aspect ratio is between 1 : 1 and 3 : 4 / 4 : 3 — each side can range between 450 and 5000 pixels.

  • When the aspect ratio is 16 : 9 — the size can range between 1080 × 607 and 5000 × 2812 pixels.

  • Maximum file size is 4 MB, with the exception of ads for mobile apps, which can be up to 10 MB.

  • Format: JPG, PNG, or GIF (only the first frame will be used), with the exception of ads for mobile apps, which support only JPG and PNG formats.

Tip

To make your ads perform better, we recommend using images that are between 1080 and 5000 pixels in size.

After you upload your image, you'll need to choose a format. The size ratio changes depending on the format: for standard picture, it ranges from 1:1 to 4:3/3:4, for widescreen picture, it's 16:9. Check the visible area of the image. Click Save on the page with the selected format.

We recommend creating two options for each ad: one with a standard image and one with a widescreen image. This way, you'll be able to cover more platforms. If you only have one image, upload it in 4:3 format.

To successfully pass moderation, the image must meet the ad formatting requirements.

The image may be reduced or cropped to fit an ad unit when served on a particular site.

You can add images to multiple ads in a unified performance campaign at once using XLS/XLSX files or Direct Commander. To do this, use bulk actions with ads or the Yandex Direct API.

Restriction

You can't add an image when you edit ads in the Yandex.Direct mobile app.
