Selecting keywords

This additional tool will help you select keywords based on the description of user search behavior or information on the site. Tell us what your target audience might be searching for and how. Specify the queries you want or don't want to display ads for and select branded queries. For example, I need those who search for uniquely designed bouquets and flowers with delivery.

How to configure

  1. In the ad group, under Related terms -> Keywords, click , then Select based on description or URL.

  2. Under Keyword selection, specify the queries.

The maximum description length is 1000 characters. Use Russian language. Brand names can be written in Latin letters.

Warning

The selection process is more accurate if you've already added ads to the campaign.

Tips for creating a good description

Tip

Describe the search behavior of the audience in your own words. Don't use a standard audience description by gender and age (Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, 30–50, working in commerce).

  1. Write what to include and to exclude from the keyword, list the brands.

    Sale of nike and adidas sneakers, but not reebok

    I need those who are searching for nike or adidas sneakers, but not reebok

    Exclude queries mentioning delivery, we don't offer it.

  2. Explain which queries you need.

    I need queries containing “eye surgeon”

    This ad should be displayed to users who are searching for furniture transportation

    My competitors are Nike and Adidas, I want my offers to appear for queries mentioning my competitors

    I need general queries about buying sports shoes

  3. Use descriptions of different complexity and combine them:

    Simple query: Reebok sneakers

    Intermediate query: Reebok sneakers, but not nike

    Complex query: Black reebok sneakers, but not men's nike sneakers

Selection results

The resulting list will contain up to 50 keyword ideas with reach data from Wordstat. The system will sort them by description relevance. You can either edit keywords or immediately add them to your campaign.

Quotes fix the number of words, but their order may change. To remove or add quotes in all keywords contained in the list, click . It's best to not remove quotes if you need to exclude broad queries. You can add other operators to a keyword manually.

The result may be missing if the description doesn't contain enough information to select relevant variants. High-quality keywords that match your description take priority.

What affects the quantity and accuracy of the result

Description

  • Too narrow. Try to expand the description to allow the system to find relevant variants. An overly specific description may increase the selection accuracy but limit the quantity of results. (For example, if you specify a location in the description).

  • Insufficient. Make sure the description contains enough information about what your customers are searching for and the queries you need.

Campaign

  • New campaign. If you have a new campaign with no ads, the algorithms may not have enough data to select relevant keywords. Adding ads to the group can improve the results.

  • Keywords already added. The tool doesn't show keywords already contained in your campaign in selection results to avoid duplication.

Recommendations

  • Experiment with different descriptions, switching between more general and more specific ones.

  • Make sure at least one ad has been added to the campaign.
