Set up hints on the route

Enable background navigation

Yandex Navigator can run in the background, giving you directions and hints even when the app is collapsed or your device screen is off. To enable background navigation:

1. Tap (profile picture). If you're not logged in, tap .

2. Tap Settings → Navigation.

3. Turn the Background navigation option on or off.

If your system and app languages are different, background notifications will appear in the app's language.

Background navigation doesn't work on my device

1. Open your device settings.
2. In the list of apps, select Yandex Navigator.
3. Tap Notifications.
4. Enable Background navigation.

To receive notifications when the app is hidden, enable Background navigation instructions.

Background navigation instructions

Turn notifications can be displayed when the app is in the background. To enable background navigation instructions:

1. Tap (profile picture). If you're not logged in, tap .

2. Tap Settings → Navigation.

3. Enable Background navigation instructions.

Background navigation instructions don't work

The instructions may vary depending on the Android version and device model.

1. Open your device settings.
2. In the list of apps, select Yandex Navigator.
3. Tap Notifications.
4. Enable Background navigation instructions.

Real-time traffic lights

The app displays live traffic light status when following routes with available data. This option is enabled by default.

To configure real-time traffic light display:

1. Tap (profile picture). If you're not logged in, tap .

2. Tap Settings → Navigation.

3. Turn the Live traffic lights option on or off.

Only one traffic light appears on your route and disappears after you pass the intersection center.

Traffic light colors update in real time.

Timers appear only for scheduled traffic lights. Demand-responsive lights activate based on traffic flow with variable timing.

Audio notifications accompany real-time traffic lights:

• Red lights at high speed trigger a speed warning alert.

• Green lights with no movement trigger a change notification sound.

If you noticed an inaccuracy, contact support.

Alternative routes

Yandex Navigator can suggest alternative routes that may have the same travel time.

To see alternative routes to your selected map point:

1. Tap (profile picture). If you're not logged in, tap .

2. Tap Settings → Navigation.

3. Enable Alternative routes.

This setting doesn't affect the display of faster routes. When following a route, Yandex Navigator will continue to show faster routes, even if the Alternative routes option is enabled.
