Using the ad CTR map

An ad click-through rate (CTR) map lets you easily imagine how visible your ad blocks will be in different page locations on your site. To create this map, YAN analysts collected statistics on the CTR of ad blocks over the entire network, converted pages to the most popular size, and generalized the CTR of ad blocks according to their position.

Our conclusions:

  • Ads are maximally effective when they are positioned above content on the initial screen.
  • Also effective are ad blocks embedded into content or positioned after an article at a point where attention is switched.
  • Side-positioned blocks are significantly less effective; the only exception to this rule is a left-side ad block on the initial screen.
