How to manage your team's resources

Resource planning helps your team work without overload or downtime. It allows managers to:

  • Balance employee workload — distribute work evenly so that some team members are not overloaded while others are idle.
  • Plan task and project deadlines more accurately based on actual time estimates and employee availability.
  • See who is working on which projects and account for an employee's total workload across all projects.

You can plan and evaluate workload at three levels:

  • In a project — on the project page under Resources, the manager adds assignees to the plan, distributes issues among them, and schedules deadlines on the resource diagram. How to plan workload in a project

  • In a portfolio — on the portfolio page under Resources, you can see all assignees and issues from nested projects, allowing you to plan workload across multiple projects in the same area. How to plan workload in a portfolio

  • Globally — on the Manage resources page, you can evaluate the workload of participants in any group or department across all projects in your organization. How to assess employee workload
