This section contains search query statistics available in the All queries and groups section. The data is presented in several dimensions:

NameDescriptionWhat indicators you can track
GroupContains statistics for query groups that are available in the All queries and groups section.

The following statistics is shown by default:

You can choose a different indicator, such as displays at certain positions, clicks from positions, and create a report for each indicator separately.

Popular queriesContains statistics on the queries with the most displays for the last three months (counts the first 3000 positions).

Viewing statistics for a query group

To get statistics on the average site position in all query groups:

  1. Set the option to Groups.
  2. In the Indicator field, choose the Avg. position parameter from the list.
  3. In the Region field, choose the region where you want to track the data. The list shows the regions where the site was within the first 50 positions in search results at least once. Regions are sorted by number of impressions.

Use the include option to get statistics on a certain region. Use the exclude option to get information worldwide, except for the specified region.

  4. Specify the date range to get the information for.
  5. If necessary, change the detail level of the selected time period: days, weeks or months.

You can also select a certain group and see statistics on common indicators.

View statistics for a certain search query

To generate a report on a search query and all available indicators:

  1. Set the option to Popular searches or Saved queries.
  2. In the All queries list, choose a query.

You can also track the dynamics of a certain indicator (for example, first position impressions) for all phrases in the Popular queries or the Saved queries group.

Sample query report

The color marks the increase (green) or decrease (red) of the indicator for the time period. The difference in numbers is calculated as compared to the previous period.

Comparison of search traffic for your site and similar sites

Yandex.Webmaster collects and analyzes statistics on search queries that brought visitors to your site from search results. Based on this data, it generates a report that allows you to compare your site's search traffic with one of the similar sites for the same period of time.

To view the report, choose the Trend option.

  1. Calculation of indicators
  2. The report data interpretation

Calculation of indicators

The report contains two indicators: the average number of clicks for your site and for a group of similar sites. The data is calculated for the chosen time period by the so-called report points. The report point is a day, week, or month, depending on how detailed the report is. For each point, the number of clicks is counted. The first point in the report is the first time period when transitions to your site and similar sites were recorded. For example, if the level of detail is by days, the first point is the first day for which Yandex.Webmaster has click data.

Search traffic is presented as an average value. This provides a general idea about the dynamics of transitions to the site from search queries.

To calculate the indicators, the number of clicks in each report point is divided by the number of clicks of the first point. As a result, the first point indicator always equals to one.

In some cases, the number of clicks in the table differs from the one in the graph. For example, the following parameters are chosen at the same time:

  • Incomplete time interval, such as September, October, and three days in November.
  • The level of detail of a week or month.

In this case, the graph shows only the selected time interval. In the table, the interval is supplemented with time intervals based on the level of detail.

The Traffic dynamics line shows the average number of clicks per period. Percentage indicators show the dynamics of search traffic compared to the previous period. The color indicates an increase (green) or decrease (red) in the indicator.

The report data can be missing if there isn't enough information for calculations in the Yandex.Webmaster database.

The report data interpretation

You can use the report to see if the site changes affect the dynamics of transitions from the search results.

For example, you noticed that the traffic dropped over the last month. If theMy site line and Similar sites line change similarly over a time period, it is likely that the reasons for the traffic decline aren't associated with the site changes. Seasonal changes can be one of the affecting factors.

If the My site line sinks and the Similar sites line goes up at the same time, it is likely that changes on the site affected these indicators. The number of clicks may go down if the site lowers its position in the search results for the analyzed search queries. The reasons for this may be:

You can check for these reasons in the Diagnostics section in Yandex.Webmaster.

Difference in statistics

The data presented in Yandex.Webmaster can differ from the data in the Yandex Keyword Statistics and Yandex.Metrica. For example, services might record the click time differently (for clicks at 23:59). The time zone difference can be another reason for discrepancies.

Main reasons why the data in Yandex.Webmaster and Yandex Keyword Statistics differs:

  • Yandex.Webmaster counts impressions and clicks up to the 50th position, which is only a part of the data.
  • The data may be displayed with a delay. For example, in the Keyword Statistics the difference between getting the data and displaying it may take about a month.

The data in Yandex.Webmaster is different from the data in Yandex.Metrica because Yandex.Webmaster only counts clicks from the search results. The Yandex.Metrica report shows the visits from such clicks. The number of clicks is not always equal to the number of sessions, since Yandex.Metrica might not count a click as a session. This happens if:

  • The site is unavailable when clicking the link.
  • The Yandex.Metrica tag is installed on the site incorrectly.
  • There is no Yandex.Metrica tag on the page the user opens from the search results.
  • The user's browser didn't manage to download the code snippet in time.
  • The is unavailable. It is impossible to count the visits from the search engine.
