Banner
A banner is a universal unit whose size adapts to the size of the framing container on the page. The unit is available for display on different devices: desktop, mobile devices and AMP pages.
The following ad formats can be displayed in a banner:
-
Adaptive Text & Image ads
-
Display advertising of different formats: both fixed and adaptive.
Example of a banner with Text & Image ads
How to create a banner
-
In the Yandex Advertising Network interface, go to Ads on websites → Ad units and click New ad unit.
-
Select the site that you want to create an ad unit for and click Next.
-
Select the Banner unit type.
-
Enter a unit name to be used in the Yandex Advertising Network interface.
-
Set the CPM floor:
-
Maximum revenue: Determine the minimum cost of impressions automatically. With this option, you can effectively fill placements and maximize revenue for the site owner.
-
CPMV floor: Set your own minimum cost per thousand impressions based on a viewability check. The CPMV floor is set in rubles, US dollars, or euros. You can change the floor currency in your account settings.
Alert
Setting a CPMV floor can reduce the unit fill rate and, therefore, decrease your income.
-
-
To place a unit on AMP pages, select the appropriate value in the AMP field. To place a unit on the desktop and mobile versions of the site, leave the No value.
Note
The same unit can be placed on the desktop and mobile versions of the site: it will be displayed on all devices. Units created for AMP pages can be placed only on AMP pages.
-
If necessary, specify the unit sizes: they will be applied to all formats within the unit. Select one of the options:
- Adaptive: The unit size is limited only by the size of the framing container on the site. For a banner, you should specify the size of the framing container yourself in the layout of the site and this determines which ad formats can be shown in the unit. For recommendations on how to determine the size of the container, see Configuring unit sizes.
-
Adaptive with limitations: Enables you to set the maximum and minimum values for the unit height and width in pixels. In that case, when ads are selected, both the size of the container on the site and the limitations set in the Advertising Network interface are taken into account.
If the minimum value is not set, the ad for the desktop Floor Ad unit occupies 90 pixels in height and no more than the specified maximum value in width. These are the default values. For all other units: at least 40% of the container in height and 70% of the container in width.
- Fixed: Enables you to determine the exact unit size in pixels. The unit will only display ads of the specified size (provided that the unit size is smaller than the size of the container on the site).
Note
When selecting the Adaptive with limitations and Fixed sizes, take into account the size requirements of fixed display advertising ad formats. To display these formats, the unit size must exactly match or exceed the size of the display banner.
For more information about the size requirements depending on the ad format, see Configuring unit sizes.
-
Customize the border for Text & Image ads and video ads:

In the Border corners field, select the type of corners:
- Auto: The shape of the corners is determined by the Yandex Advertising Network algorithms for each specific impression.

Maximum number of ads
The unit will display no more than the selected number of ads. The exact number is determined at the display time and depends on the size of the container in which the ad unit is inserted.
The method of placing ads in a unit
If there's more than one ad in a unit, you can specify their position:
-
Auto: Automatically based on the container size.
-
From left to right: For horizontal containers.
-
From top to bottom: For vertical containers.
On mobile devices, ads are displayed in a carousel if the ad unit contains more than two ads and has a left-to-right orientation. If the unit height is less than 200 pixels, one ad is displayed.
In the preview area, you can simulate how the unit will be displayed in different framing containers and on different devices.
-
Select the device type using the
option: desktop or mobile.
-
Configure the container size in the Container field. You can select a value from the list or set the size yourself by selecting Custom.
Note
The specified container size is used only to generate the preview area and isn't saved in the unit settings. When placing the unit, specify the container size in the site layout.
Media ads is served automatically based on the unit size.
To disable a format, set it to “Disabled”
Video ads are selected automatically based on the unit size. The minimum allowed unit size is 320 × 180 pixels, and one of the unit sides should be at least 180 pixels long. Video ads won't be displayed in smaller units (even if the format is enabled in the unit settings).

Click Create. A window with the embed code will open. Use this code to place the ad unit on your site.
Once you save the ad unit, it will be assigned a unique identifier (ID
). It consists of a product ID (R-A
), site ID (site_id
), and the unit's serial number.
Alert
You can't place units with the same IDs on the same page of the site. If you want to create another unit with the same settings, find the unit and click Duplicate in the general list of units. A duplicate unit with a new ID will appear.
How to place a banner on a site
The order of placement of the unit depends on the site version:
-
Get the embed code: in the unit settings, click Get code.
-
Copy the ad loader code to the clipboard and paste it at the beginning of the site page between the
<head>
and</head>
tags. The loader code is only embedded on the page once and is used to call all units of the Yandex Advertising Network. -
Copy the ad unit code to the clipboard and paste it into the framing container in the part of the page where you plan to display the ad. The container and the unit must be located inside the
<body/>
element.
Note
We recommend copying the code only using the Copy to clipboard button. When copying in other ways, your text editor might truncate or wrap long strings, which might cause the JavaScript code to run incorrectly.
When embedding the code, make sure that:
-
The ad code for the units that should be displayed first is inserted as early as possible.
-
The embed code isn't placed in a hidden DOM node or iframe.
-
The ad on the page isn't blocked by other units and elements.
-
There are no errors related to the embed code in the browser console.
When setting up container sizes, we also recommend configuring dynamic banner adaptability, letting it resize itself flexibly depending on the contents in the unit, the user device, and the site content. Read more in How to use dynamic adaptive ads in Banner.
