Widgets
A widget is a small block on your device home screen that gives you quick access to Yandex services, the weather forecast, and other information.
Widget types
2 х 1 (search bar)
The widget appears as a search bar that spans half the screen.
To change the widget color scheme:
-
Tap (profile picture).
- Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Widget 2 х 1.
- Choose a color theme.
4 х 1 (search bar)
Available in black and white. The widget is a search bar. There is also a widget with the Smart Camera. It has no settings.
You can also add a search bar to the notification bar or the device's lock screen. For installation and configuration instructions, see Search bar.
4 х 2 (weather)
The widget shows the current outdoor temperature and an hourly forecast for the day.
You can change the widget background and your location.
4 х 2 (search and weather)
The widget provides quick access to Yandex Search and shows the date, time, and the weather forecast for the day. It has no settings.
4 х 4
The widget provides quick access to Yandex Search and shows the date, time, and the weather forecast for the day.
You can change the widget size, add new widgets, or swap them.
4 х 4 (expanded)
The widget offers quick access to Yandex Search and key services. It shows USD and EUR exchange rates, road traffic, the current date and time, and the daily weather forecast.
You can change the widget size, add new Yandex services, or swap them.
Add a widget to the screen
- On your device home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
- Tap Widgets.
- In the widget list, select Yandex Start.
- Choose a Yandex widget that you like in the thumbnail list and drag it to a free area on the screen.
Remove a widget from the screen
- Tap and hold the widget.
- Tap Delete.
- Confirm deletion.
Why do I have multiple identical widgets?
Widgets are built into many Yandex mobile apps, for example, Yandex Disk, Yandex Maps, Yandex Metro, Yandex Navigator), and Yandex Keyboard.
You can remove the widgets that you don't want.
Why isn't a widget updated?
Here are the most common reasons why widgets don't show updated information:
No internet connection
Check if your device is connected to the internet.
Power saving mode is enabled
Power saving mode prevents widgets from updating in background mode.
Open your device settings and make sure that this mode is off or turn it off. Power saving mode may also turn on automatically when your device battery is low.
You need to allow the app to run in the background
Note
The path may vary depending on your device model.
For the widget to update properly, you need to grant it a permission to run in the background. To do this:
- Open your device settings and go to Apps → Yandex Start → More → Battery.
- On a mobile device, make sure there are no restrictions on background activity. On a tablet, turn on Allow background activity.
