Managing a media source

A media source is an external traffic source you work with when promoting an application. In AppMetrica, a media source represents an ad network, agency, or other platform involved in user acquisition.

Media sources participate in various tracking and analytics processes:

  • Creating trackers. You can create trackers for a media source - unique links for attributing installs and events.

  • Attribution. User events can be tied to a specific media source (for example, by click or impression).

  • Analytics. In AppMetrica reports, you can filter and group data by media sources.

  • Integration. For media sources, you can configure postback templates and enable postback sending for all sources — automatic conversion data transfer.

Media source list

AppMetrica actively collaborates with ad networks that can be used to advertise your app. AppMetrica media sources are listed in the Ad networks and technologies section. If the media source isn't listed, you can add them yourself.

In the AppMetrica service, the list of media sources is available in the TrackingMedia sources section. By default, the list displays both AppMetrica's general media sources and custom media sources added by you or your colleagues. To view only custom media sources, enable the Created option. To find a specific media source, use the search bar.

A custom media source is displayed in the list if at least one of the following conditions is met:

  • The media source's creator is either one of the application owners or has guest access to applications available to the user.
  • The media source settings were specified for at least one available application.
  • The media source is listed in the agency guest access for the user. Learn more about access types.

You can rename your custom media source or, if the cooperation has ended, archive them. To do this, click in the media source's row and select the desired action.

When archiving a media source, all report data will be preserved and available when viewing reports for past periods. However, you won't be able to create new trackers for an archived media source.

Adding a media source

f you can't find the required advertising media source in the general list, you can create your own custom media source.

  1. Go to TrackingMedia sources and click Add Media Source.

  2. In the window that opens, fill in the information and click Create.

The new media source will be available in the list. To open the media source page, click on its name.

Adding a postback template

A postback template is a ready-made format for automatically sending conversion data to a media source. The template can be useful if you want to use it across multiple trackers. The template can be helpful if you want to use it in multiple trackers.

Templates can be viewed on the media source page under the Postback templates tab.

To create a new template:

  1. Click Create template.

  6. Click Save.

Postbacks for all sources

  • For media sources who need all events, not just those attributed to them;

To create a new postback for all sources:

  1. Click Create.
