Managing sites

For reporting and setup purposes, the Yandex Advertising defines a site as the group of all ad placements across a single resource, including mirror domains, mobile and desktop versions, and AMP pages.

Our network serves targeted ads across sites, which can match the content of the page the user is viewing or adapt to user interests via behavioral targeting. Ads appear alongside your main content, either as a distinct ad unit or inside a widget with recommended articles.

Add a site

  1. Go to the Website AdsSites tab and click Add site.

  2. Select a site domain from the list or add a new one and enter the site name.

  3. Save the site. It will be assigned a unique identifier (site ID) and appear in the list with one of the statuses:

    • New: Used for sites that you add after registration.
    • Under moderation: Used for sites that have been submitted for moderation.
    • Testing: Used for sites that have passed moderation.

The site status will automatically update to Active shortly.

    Alert

You can create and place ad units immediately after creating your site. However, you can only receive revenue for impressions if the site's status is Active.

  4. After creating your site, verify domain ownership if needed — you can’t submit the site for moderation or start monetization without it.

To manage your ad settings more effectively, you can add multiple sites under a single domain in the Yandex Advertising. For instance, you create two sites for example.com. You can delegate management of the first site to your assistant, who will create and configure ad units for the news section, while keeping the second site under your own control to configure ads for the rest of the domain's sections.

Note

You can add up to 200 active ad units to a single site. You should move unused ad units to the archive.

If you want to add more than 200 ad units to your site, contact support.

Verify domain ownership

To monetize your site, verify domain ownership. This confirms that you manage the site and can change its settings.

After you’ve added a site with a new domain, you’ll see a notification on the site settings page asking you to verify ownership. Click Verify ownership on the notification to choose a verification method:

  1. Download the ads.txt file in the verification form or under Settings → General.
  2. If you already have an ads.txt file on your site, copy the lines from the downloaded file into it. If you don't have one yet, use the downloaded file as is.
  3. Upload the file to your site so it can be accessed at example.com/ads.txt.
  4. Start the verification by clicking Verify via ads.txt.

Note

You don’t need to be a site owner in Yandex Webmaster to verify ownership via this service. Just make sure the login you use in the YAN Partner interface was added to the list of site users in Yandex Webmaster and has access rights to the site.

  1. Click Go to Yandex Webmaster and verify site ownership in Yandex Webmaster using one of the following methods:

    • HTML file in the root directory of your site.
    • Meta tag on your home page.
    • TXT record in your DNS settings.
    • Tag manager (YTM or GTM).

For instructions on how to verify site ownership using these methods, see Yandex Webmaster Help.

  2. Go back to the YAN interface and start the verification by clicking Verify via Yandex Webmaster.

Once domain ownership is successfully verified, the site is automatically submitted for moderation. When moderation is complete, you can start monetization.

Verification fails

Depending on the verification method, check the following:

  • The ads.txt file correctly indicates your partner ID, and the site’s security settings or firewall aren’t blocking access to the file at example.com/ads.txt.
  • In Yandex Webmaster, the domain was verified under the same login that you use in the YAN Partner interface.

Site settings

To change the site settings, click Edit next to the site you want to edit. Otherwise, click View to open its settings page and go to Settings.

The following settings can be configured for the whole site (but not for individual ad units):

You can also specify your site's language. The language is selected for elements of ads and ad units, but doesn't impact the content of the ads. Ad impressions are selected for each user on an individual basis. You can select between Russian (ru), Ukrainian (uk), English (en), Belarusian (by), Kazakh (kz), Turkish (tr), and Tatar (tt) languages.

Yandex Metrica reports

When a platform is saved in the interface, Yandex Metrica automatically creates a new tag within 30 minutes to evaluate site performance. To learn more, see How to enable reports.

After you place ad units on site pages, Yandex Metrica starts collecting traffic statistics for these pages. This data is included in reports: in the line with the site, click MoreMetrics reports. To learn more, see Reports for evaluating the effectiveness of monetization.

Stopping and archiving a site

To stop displaying all ads on a particular site, click Stop impressions. To resume impressions, click Start impressions.

A site that doesn't have statistics for impressions and clicks can be archived. To do this, click Archive. If the site has accumulated statistical data, first stop ad impressions on this site and then add it to the archive.

You can restore archived sites on the Archive tab.

Ads on the site do not match the site's theme

The Yandex Advertising Network may display ads based on user interests. This technology helps users see ads that most interest them, helps advertisers better target their intended audience, and helps partners earn more money.
