Requirements for placing search ad units

Alert

This section describes the technical requirements that partners must meet when placing search ad units.

  1. Search results pages support two types of search ad placements (Yandex Direct promotions):

    • “Premium placement”: High-CTR ad unit displayed above search results.
    • “Remaining impressions”: Ads not included in premium impressions can appear mid-page or at the bottom during the search, or when the user returns to search results.
    1. Ads on search results pages must be served only once, without any cropping, and only in the specified order.

    2. Placement requirements:

      • For the “Premium placement”, the ad unit must be placed below the search bar and above search results and other content (there must be no elements between the search bar and the Premium ad unit).
      • For the “Remaining impressions” placement, the ad unit must be placed below search results.
    3. Maximum number of ads that you can place within a single ad unit:

      • For “Premium placement”, no more than 4 ads.
      • For “Remaining impressions”, no more than 5 ads.
    4. You can place a maximum of two Yandex Direct ad units. The presence of ads is determined by the response of the Yandex system.

You can't place only one type of Yandex Direct ads if the response from the system includes both types.

    5. You can't place multiple “Premium placement” or “Remaining impressions” ads on a search page, unless previously agreed with Yandex.

    6. The Yandex Direct search ad tag can only be placed on search results pages and only if there are search results present.

It's prohibited to send the Yandex Direct search ad tag for predefined search queries.

  2. The ad font size must not be smaller than the font size used to display search results, ads, or other information on the partner's site pages or resources.

  3. The search engine's software and hardware components must comply with the following algorithm:

    1. When the search engine interface receives a user query, the Yandex ad display system automatically receives:

      • Search query text.
      • Unique ID of the user (GUID).
      • User's HTTP/HTTPS referer.
      • User-Agent and IP address of the PC from which the user made the query.
      • ID (if supported).
    2. In response, the search engine receives relevant materials that meet the criteria for search ad placement.

    3. All materials received for a given search query are placed on the corresponding page of the partner resource taking into account the size of the ad placements (without reducing the actual number of materials that can be shown within the Yandex Direct promotion).
