Yes. And it already has. The UK’s average temperature is 1 degree Celsius higher than it was 100 years ago, and 0.5C higher than it was in the 1970s.

It’s worth remembering that natural fluctuations will cause unusually cold years and seasons so temperatures may not rise every single year.

But what effect will rising temperatures have in the UK? We can expect more extreme weather events, including longer-lasting heat waves, heavier rainfall, rising sea levels, changes in our seasons and threats to wildlife.
